Auburndale Cove 6/14/2012

Since I had the day off and the weather was nice I decided to head down to the cove for a little bit to do some early morning fishing. On my first cast I caught a nice Chain Pickerel! Thats another species we can add to the list of fish down there! After that I got a few more bites but nothing solid until I caught a small largemouth. Out of the two I'd say the Pickerel was the better fish, as he certainly fought harder!

How could it be a trash fish? It's a mini pike! Catch

  • Type of Fish: Chain Pickerel
  • Fish Length (Avg): 18.5 inches
  • Fish Length (Max): 18.5 inches
  • Fish Weight (Avg): 1 lbs. 14 oz.
  • Fish Weight (Max): 1 lbs. 14 oz.
  • Bait Type: Worm Check Prices
  • Bait Details: I caught this pickerel on one of those weed less creme baits. Recently it has proven itself to be a fine bass lure, and as any angler knows, if a bass will eat it, so will a pickerel!
  • Location Details: There are two openings to the water next to the small building, one is almost completely closed off by lily pads but the other still has some clear spots. I was pulling my lure along the edges of the weed bed and the pickerel struck when it was close to shore.

Small Bass Catch

  • # of Fish Caught: 1
  • Water Type: freshwater
  • Type of Fish: Largemouth Bass
  • Fish Length (Avg): 13 inches
  • Fish Length (Max): 13 inches
  • Bait Type: Worm Check Prices
  • Bait Details: The small largemouth was caught on one of those red shad power worms again. Those things just seem to produce everywhere! Once again it was texas rigged, which is of greater importance here due to the massive amounts of lily pads and other weeds.
  • Location Details: I was casting from the same spot as I was with the pickerel. This fish however hooked up much farther out, about 10 yards from shore.
