Sawyer Lake Gilmanton NH Fishing Report

Best Memorial Day Weekend Ever!

I spent Memorial Day weekend up in NH with my uncle and my friends. Turkey hunting became useless about two weeks ago so instead I decided to head out onto Sawyer Lake in search of bass. I wanted to avoid the dam this time though because it is starting to get a little crowded these days. So instead I hit up a new area close to the beach I used to swim from as a kid. The results were spectacular. I had hoped to catch smallmouth bass in this area, but I'm happy with the massive amounts of largemouths that I and other fishermen pulled up.

A New Honey Hole Catch

  • # of Fish Caught: 7
  • Water Type: freshwater
  • Type of Fish: Largemouth Bass
  • Fish Length (Avg): 15 inches
  • Fish Length (Max): 16 inches
  • Fish Weight (Avg): 1 lbs. 10 oz.
  • Bait Type: Worm Check Prices
  • Bait Details: It was all the soft plastics this time around. The first couple and last one were all caught on a red shad power worm with a texas rig. The biggest ones were caught with a blue lizzard, rigged the same way.
  • Location Details: The beach right near here is an area I used to swim from as a kid. I have fished this area before, but always lost my lures to rock snags, as there are quite a few here. With my parent's old canoe and a better understanding of working lures however, I made out pretty well this time. The fish shown here was the largest of the whole weekend, a nice 2 pounder.
