I decided to relieve some stress after classes today so I took a nice fishing trip to the Brookline Reservoir. Considering it's a mile away from my apt. it wasn't too far of a trip but fishing makes you seem miles away from anything. I only stayed about an hour or so because I had some things to take care of but I was happy with my accomplishments. On my second cast I landed a tiny perch, making me think it was going to be a good day. Not ten minutes later I landed a nice 12-14" Rainbow Trout (which happens to be my first). I've had plenty of Brown trout and Brooke trout in New York's Adirondacks.
Here's a little tip that my Uncle gave me. I told him that I've been fishing the past few weeks at a Pond in MA. I told him about how frustrating it's been because I can see these schools of fish all over the pond, right at the top of the water. I am new to the Brookline Reservoir so I've been throwing crank baits through the pools, spinners, jigs, you name it and never got a bite. He told me they are only bait fish that are moving away from their predators. The tip he gave me was to try some different Rapala's and throw it into the pool of bait fish, let it sit there for a little bit and slowly jerk it every once in a while. Well don't you know I landed my first Rainbow Trout an hour after he told me this. I wish he told me a few weeks ago when I started fishing this spot!
