Sort by: Max Fish Length | Max Fish Weight | Trip Name | # of Fish Caught

From Trip: I'm back (at Whitehall)!
Trip Date:5/18/2015
Hotspot Title: Slob in the Weeds
# of Fish Caught: 1
Fish Length (Average): 20 inches
Fish Length (Max): 20 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 3 lbs. 6 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 3 lbs. 6 oz.
Bait Type: Worm
Bait Details: I'm guessing when it comes to the size. I had stupidly left my scale and measuring board in the Jeep. I actually did try a variety of lures here, looking for Bass and big Pickerel. Once again though, it was the power worm that produced.
Location Details: I floated around the northern end of the reservoir for awhile till it got dark, then I focused my efforts on the weedy area near the boat ramp. There is actually a some nice structure there, including fallen logs, sparse lily pads (this time of year), and a rock or two.

From Trip: Gilmanton NH Fishing Chronicles
Trip Date:7/17/2014 - 7/20/2014
Hotspot Title: Shellcamp Bass
# of Fish Caught: 2
Fish Length (Average): 17 inches
Fish Length (Max): 19 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 2 lbs. 2 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 3 lbs. 2 oz.
Bait Type: Worm
Bait Details: The Bass pictured here is the biggest Bass of my life so far! 19 inches, almost enough to qualify for the NH catch and release trophy program. When I first hooked him, I thought I had bottom, until the bottom started pulling back!. A couple headshaking minutes later, and I pulled this beast into the kayak! I can't wait until next year for this fish to grow even more!

Fish Length (Max): 18 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 2 lbs. 0 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 3 lbs. 0 oz.
Bait Type: Lizard
Bait Details: Although I got some nibbles on the plastic worms, all of the fish were landed on those plastic salamanders again!
Location Details: Same old spot on the sawyer lake dam.

From Trip: Turrkey Season Bass Fishing
Trip Date:5/3/2013 - 5/6/2013
Hotspot Title: New Record and Many More!
# of Fish Caught: 5
Fish Length (Average): 15.5 inches
Fish Length (Max): 18 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 15 lbs. 8 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 2 lbs. 4 oz.
Bait Type: Worm
Bait Details: This matches my biggest largemouth in length, and probably in weight as well. The fish off of the damn were all caught on "Tequila Sunrise" colored power worms with a gold colored 3/16 oz. bullet weight. I also changed up the line to a lighter 6 lb. test, which may have helped.
Location Details: We fished up and down the concrete embankment of the Sawyer Lake damn over the course of several days. Dad got a few bites, but I was the one pulling in all the fish. On the first day some other guys showed up for about half an hour, and one of them got a nice two pounder. It was actually quite windy for the first few days, which may have actually helped by pushing all the baitfish schools down to this end of the lake.

From Trip: Sawyer Lake 7/12-7/13/2013
Trip Date:7/12/2013 - 7/13/2013
Hotspot Title: They're getting bigger!
# of Fish Caught: 4
Fish Length (Average): 17 inches
Fish Length (Max): 18 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 2 lbs. 0 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 2 lbs. 8 oz.
Bait Type: Worm
Bait Details: This is the first of the four fish I caught over the weekend. I arrived at the damn at about 8:10 PM. I made one cast out from the damn, and almost instantly this bass gobbled up my lure! The quality of the photo's are not as good this time around, as I had forgot to bring my camera and had to take all of these pictures with my cellphone. Once again, all fish were caught on 8 in tequila sunrise power worms. I think I need to invest in a good landing net though, as my line keeps breaking bringing them up and hand landing these guys sucks.
Location Details: Though I did make an expedition to my favorite morning spot on the other side of the lake, this time all the action was at the Sawyer lake damn in the evening. Bites were occurring all over the embankment, from right next to the damn to the sandy beach.

Hotspot Title: First Bass of 2014!
# of Fish Caught: 2
Fish Length (Average): 17.5 inches
Fish Length (Max): 18 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 2 lbs. 13 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 3 lbs. 0 oz.
Bait Type: Worm
Bait Details: Since I didn’t have any of the right size of tequila sunrise power worms, the old Mann’s 8 inch purple jelly worms had to pull through, and did so. Both were rigged up my usual way; Texas rigged with a 3/16 oz. brass bullet weight and a 1/0 offset hook.
Location Details: The fish pictured here is the smaller of the two, but not by much. I’m guessing him at around 17 inches and about 2 ¾ pounds. I hooked him closer to the dam then the other one.

Fish Length (Average): 17 inches
Fish Length (Max): 18 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 2 lbs. 8 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 2 lbs. 12 oz.
Bait Type: Worm
Bait Details: The first day I caught two largemouth and two smallmouth. Both largemouth were decent fish, 2.5 to about 3 pounds. As usual with manning lake, everything was caught on Senkos.
Location Details: This is the larger of the two largemouth, as you can see attempting to eat my whole damn hand. Both of these fish were relatively shallow, right off on of the rocks sticking out of the water at the southern end of the pile.

Fish Length (Average): 16 inches
Fish Length (Max): 17 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 1 lbs. 8 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 2 lbs. 0 oz.
Bait Type: Worm
Bait Details: Even with all of the swimmer activity, the dam still is a consistent producer at night. Both fish were caught with my go-to setup, 8 inch tequila sunrise power worms with 1/16 cone weights on 1/0 offset worm hooks. The fish pictured here was about 17 in long. My scale has been on the fritz lately so I'm estimating his weight at about 2 1/3 lbs.
Location Details: Both this big fish here and the smaller one in the other photo were caught maybe 3/4 full casting distance from the damn.

Bait Type: Nightcrawler
Bait Details: I took mthe advice from a local bait shop employee and put some nightcrawlers on the end of some jigs.
Location Details: Basically the same area I was casting into in the summer. It's a good deal shallower then it was in those months due to the fact that the lake level is lowered in the winter to prevent ice damage to the dam.

Hotspot Title: A New Honey Hole
# of Fish Caught: 7
Fish Length (Average): 15 inches
Fish Length (Max): 16 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 1 lbs. 10 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 2 lbs. 0 oz.
Bait Type: Worm
Bait Details: It was all the soft plastics this time around. The first couple and last one were all caught on a red shad power worm with a texas rig. The biggest ones were caught with a blue lizzard, rigged the same way.
Location Details: The beach right near here is an area I used to swim from as a kid. I have fished this area before, but always lost my lures to rock snags, as there are quite a few here. With my parent's old canoe and a better understanding of working lures however, I made out pretty well this time. The fish shown here was the largest of the whole weekend, a nice 2 pounder.

Location Details: This one was caught a bit farther into the lake then I would be able to access standing from shore. If memory serves correctly he was hanging out closer to the bottom of the lake.

Fish Length (Average): 16 inches
Fish Length (Max): 16 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 2 lbs. 0 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 2 lbs. 0 oz.
Bait Type: Worm
Bait Details: On the last day we headed out in the canoe and fished much of the shoreline. We had some bites, but the real action came when we headed over to the other end of the lake, my favorite spot. Here I immediately hooked into a nice two pounder while tossing around a big purple jelly worm, rigged the same way as most of my baits. Dad also finally got some much needed action over here as well. He hooked into one medium size bass early on, but it slipped off just as he brought it to boat side. He did manage to land a nice 17 inch 2.2 pounder however! Both of his fish were hooked on a small blue soft plastic crawdad lure.
Location Details: Unfortunately, there is no picture of any of the fish that came on the last day, as neither of us had any type of camera on us.

Fish Weight (Average): 1 lbs. 10 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 2 lbs. 8 oz.
Bait Type:
Bait Details: Truth be told I didn’t really bother measuring them out this time, conditions aboard the kayak are a little cramped for that. Maybe I should drill a measuring board to the side. I’m going to guess that this guy was around a pound and a half. I managed to pull in all three bass on my usual power worm/brass weight rig. If I didn’t have the feeling that I’m hardly to the only person to use this combo then I’d patent it!
Location Details: All fish were caught near my usual morning shore spot. When I’m stuck on shore, all the fish seem just a hair out of reach. Not so with the Kayak!

Bait Type: Worm
Bait Details: I picked up some purple jelly worms at Bass Pro the other day and tried them out at the lake. I did manage to catch one good bass on them. Looks like those still do produce.
Location Details: There is a floating dock at the end of the swimming area. If nobody is swimming that day, I throw a lyre over there because some nice two pounders like to hang out near it.

Bait Details: After not getting much action out of the worms, I decided to toss one of my old mepps black fly spinners out. On the second cast I caught the largest bass I've ever seen down here.
Location Details: One of the open areas along the shoreline. There are no weeds in these areas during the spring, so it's a good time to try working through the shallows when the water gets warmer.

Bait Details: This is the one Bass I caught during the day, somewhere around a pounds and a half. Red Shad Power Worms once again did the job here, with the Texas Rigs being able to slice through the weeds quite nicely.
Location Details: This Bass was caught near the area where we were catching most of the Pickerel. The weeds were spread out enough so that throwing a lure was possible.

Fish Weight (Average): 1 lbs. 0 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 1 lbs. 8 oz.
Bait Type: Topwater Bait
Bait Details: Though I have caught a few bass on various lures here so far, topwaters seem to be the most productive by far. It makes sense when you think about. Go down to Fairhaven on a summer night and just try and count the splashes on the surface. I lost count somewhere around 20.
Location Details: The bass in particular like to hang just outside the edge of the weed line. Running a topwater through the slot can be hard, but it does produce.

From Trip: First Bass of the Year!
Trip Date:4/9/2013
Hotspot Title: First Largemouth of the Season!
# of Fish Caught: 1
Fish Length (Average): 14.75 inches
Fish Length (Max): 0 inches
Fish Weight (Average): 2 lbs. 5 oz.
Fish Weight (Max): 2 lbs. 5 oz.
Bait Type:
Bait Details: This is my first Bass of the year and my first fish this open water season. To hell with what the fishing magazines say, Red Shad power worms on cone weights work any time of the year! I've lost count of how many fish I have caught using this one setup.
Location Details: I had a bit more casting room this time as there are no lily pads this time of year. Still, I stuck to that one familiar spot. I ended up giving the fish to some Asian dude I met down there. I'm pretty sure he's gonna eat. Hey, it's his liver!
